Increased Performance through Effective and Efficient Production

In today’s globalized times, machine manufacturers such as Flottweg grapple daily with the challenging market conditions that go hand in hand with rapid change. Aspects such as supply bottlenecks, global crises, and changing market requirements, but also last-minute urgent orders or increasing capacity constraints, place Flottweg under growing competitive pressure as a manufacturing company. As such, it is important to combine cost-effectiveness and efficiency together with innovation at the same time to ensure future-oriented internal processes as well as long-term competitiveness. By doing this, it will be possible to act quickly, purposefully, sustainably in a customer-oriented manner to achieve the most important goal: customer satisfaction.

New Production Machine for Innovation and Sustainability

In order to consistently increase production performance in particular, the separation technology specialist opted to purchase the new PowerSpeed Cube 4000 turning and milling center from the German machine manufacturer SHW from Aalen-Wasseralfingen. Several work processes will now be able to be combined with the new production machine, thereby leading to a significant reduction in the throughput time. An interdisciplinary project team analyzed the various influencing factors, coordinated the offers and final procurement, as well as the commissioning of the machine. With a budget of 1.5 million euros, this new production machine is the largest machine investment in Flottweg’s history. Initial plans to acquire the new machine began in January 2022, and the machine was finally put into operation in July 2023.

“As an internationally active company with an export quota of around 80%, it is particularly important for us to strengthen our competitive position through ongoing development. Without progress and innovation, it is not possible to compete on the global market,” explains Project Manager Alexander Wimmer. “That’s why the cooperation with the interdisciplinary project team was so important: It was the only way to factor in a variety of (positive and negative) elements. Thanks to Flottweg's investment in this new production machine, it has now paved the way for the future—for both the Vilsbiburg site as well as the employees in production.”
